Keira is a young and super talented rider based here in Rotorua. She’s an absolute natural on a bike, excelling across every discipline—Enduro, DH, Freeride, and XC. As one of our Sweet Protection Ambassador riders, we’re beyond stoked to have her onboard. With her undeniable skills and passion for the sport, we can’t wait to see what the future holds for her.
We put together a few quick-fire questions for her. Here’s what she had to say...
Sweet Protection: Have bikes always been a part of your life? When and how did you get into riding?
Keira: Yes, I have grown up with bikes since I was a little kid with a runner bike. However, I didn't really get into mountain biking until I was about ten years old when my neighbors and I built some small wooden jumps outside our house during the COVID lockdown. From there I went riding more and more in the forest with my friends, which led to racing downhill and enduro from the age of 12 years.
What sort of riding are you enjoying the most at the moment and why?
My favorite type of riding at the moment is downhill because I love the excitement and the challenges of trying to put together a clean and fast race run.
What's the coolest or scariest feature you've ever hit?
The scariest feature I've ever hit is definitely the river line at 60 feet. The first time I hit it, I was shaking for the rest of the day. But I love the feeling of flying through the air, and it felt easier the more I hit it, making it more enjoyable.
What's your favorite trail and why?
It's a very hard choice, but my favorite trail is probably Te Ruru because every time I reach the bottom, I'm just pumped. I love the roots and the variety on that track.
Who's your biggest idol or inspiration, and why?
Another tough choice, but my biggest inspiration is Robin Goomes. From watching her be the first woman to backflip at Crankworx to her being the first woman to drop and win at Rampage.
Do you have any other hobbies?
When I'm not riding my bike, I enjoy playing football, hockey, futsal, and athletics. I also like knee boarding, skiing, and wakeboarding behind the boat.
What's your biggest goal for the 2024/25 summer season?
My goal is to have a strong racing season, do well in the National Downhill series, and hopefully podium at the New Zealand National Downhill Championships here in Rotorua, aiming for the top step.
What's your dream? Where do you want to be in 5-10 years?
I want to be overseas riding for a team and racing in World Cups.
Thanks for taking the time to answer our questions Keira - best of luck over your summer racing season!
